Month of Mayhem

A poster I put together for a mountain biking event in Pittsburgh that gets kicked off this weekend.  In the off chance that my blog readership and the Pittsburgh MTB community overlap, there's more info over here.

Also prints available here.

Inky Monsters

Messing around - wanted to paint some monsters that were more or less nothing but ink and teeth.

Sketchbook!

Today we have some sketchbook funtime experiments with a big ol fat black marker which I firmly to be THE BEST (see Figure A1) and a white gel pen, which is pretty cool too.  Other things were also involved, but those are the main ingredients.

Fig. A1

Oh, and turtles.

Have a lovely day,

Feeding the Blog

Oh no, what have I gone and done.  I neglected the Blog and now it's hungry.  Time to feed it I suppose.

So here's a spot of teamwork between myself and my (unreasonably talented) friend Christina Ellis.  She doodled up this little beastie over here and I got all painty with it.

And a couple of table scraps:

Still hungry little guy?

I'll take that as a yes.

More Sketchbook Critters!

So here's some more sketchbook town.  I've been trying out new things, with varying degrees of success, but I think these are kind of fun.  They're done in a combination of paint markers, namely a white sharpie and the king of all markers: the HARDCORE marker.  I don't think it's possible to adequately articulate how much I like this marker.  I posted the businessmen at an unreasonably large size, which I recommend viewing.

Onward and upward,
Rob.

Sketchbook Backlog

So, since I've been at the Art Students League I've been commuting every day.  Nearly two hours of train riding every day, some New Jersey Transit some MTA.  The result of all this time spent on a train is that I have about four hundred pages (slightly more actually) of train related sketchbooking to share.  So without further ado, and in no particular order, here are some sleeping bankers, reading investors, texters and space starers:

Initially it was purely a ballpoint and brush pen affair, but it has since migrated (marked by the death of my beloved S.K.B. and the complete lack of effort to replace it) over to a more diverse collection of things.  Most recently colored pencils and a calligraphy marker

There will be more of this.

Back to the Book

Sketchbook! Media experiments! Yeah!

I've had a couple of these pages sitting in my book as pencil drawings for over a month now, and figured it was time to see how big a mess I could make out of them. All in all I'm pleased.

Right then. Back to work.

Sketchbooooooook!

More Sketchbooktown! Here we have some figure drawings I did over spring break in New York at the Society of Illustrators and the direct result of looking at a lot of McBess, who is wonderful.

Yes indeed. More to come in the future.

More Experiments

More sketchbook playtime. This time it's mostly pastel and watercolor with a little bit of ink thrown around where it felt necessary.

This is suitshark. Careful, just one drop of business in the water and he could go into a BUSINESS FRENZY.
